The European Researchers’ Night, an annual celebration of science and research across the continent, recently took place, and MAR2PROTECT was front and center, showcasing its commitment to cutting-edge research and innovation. As part of this prestigious event, our project had the opportunity to engage with the public, share our discoveries, and capture some memorable moments.
A Glimpse into the Event
The event was a dazzling display of knowledge, curiosity, and collaboration. Researchers, scientists, and enthusiasts from diverse fields gathered to share their work, engage in discussions, and inspire the next generation of innovators. MAR2PROTECT was honored to be a part of this dynamic environment along with NOVA members.
The European Researchers’ Night was a shining example of the power of research to transform lives and inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators. MAR2PROTECT is honored to have been a part of this enlightening event and looks forward to continuing its mission of innovation and discovery. Together, we’re shaping a brighter future!
The European Researchers’ Night is an annual celebration of science and innovation, bringing together researchers, scientists, and the public to showcase cutting-edge projects that aim to address some of the most pressing global challenges. In September 29th 2023, at Nova university of lisbon, MAR2PROTECT and LIFE-4-FGASES will stand in the spotlight, shedding light on their groundbreaking efforts to combat climate change and mitigate human activities’ impact on groundwater contamination and greenhouse gas emissions.
MAR2PROTECT, the European project focused on sustainable groundwater management, and LIFE-4-FGASES, which concentrates on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, teamed up to present their innovative multi-level methodologies. These methodologies are designed to prevent the adverse effects of climate change and human activities on groundwater contamination while simultaneously working towards the reduction of greenhouse gases.
Both MAR2PROTECT and LIFE-4-FGASES will emphasize the importance of collaboration between researchers, institutions, and the public to tackle these global challenges effectively. By sharing their methodologies and insights at the European Researchers’ Night 2023, they hope to inspire others to join the cause and work together for a more sustainable and resilient planet.
This year’s program was inspired by EXPO’98 and, through science, music and dance, the atmosphere experienced at the time was recreated. MAR2PROTECT wanted to streamline an activity at the Water Pavilion with the objective to expose a demonstration, so that all visitors could interact and have a personal contact with the work developed in a practical and accessible way.
Ana Pereiro (from NOVA FCT) was a speaker during the COIL-9 the 24th of April. She explained what the project MAR2PROTECT is all about and how to prevent contamination related to global and climate change.
The COIL-9 (Congress On Ionic Liquids) is the main event in the broad field of ionic liquids and is being hosted in Lyon from the 24th to the 28th of April 2023.
The event aims to showcase the latest developments in ionic liquid and its related fields creating an interdisciplinary community concerned with materials and processes.
November 26th, marked the launch of the societal activities co-designed within our Lima Estuary Demosite Living Lab, as part of the MAR2PROTECT project. This exciting initiative was organized by our partner CIIMARand involved students from Escola Secundária de Santa Maria Maior in Viana do Castelo, one of the participating schools in this Living Lab.
The activity began with an engaging presentation on the importance of saltmarshes in maintaining water quality. The students were introduced to the vital role these ecosystems play in coastal sustainability and environmental health.
As part of this ongoing initiative, next month the students will visit the Lima Estuary revegetationsite, which was initiated on October 21st. During the field trip, they will observe the transplanted plots, collect water quality parameters, and gather data for classroom analysis. This hands-on experience will offer valuable insights into the restoration process and the significant impact of saltmarshes on the local environment.
We are excited to continue developing societal activities and look forward to further community-driven environmental education through the Living Lab.
