6th IWA International Conference on eco-Technologies for Wastewater Treatment
June 26, 2023 @ 8:00 am - June 29, 2023 @ 5:00 pm
June 26th to 29th, 2023 in Girona
Following the previous successful IWA ecoSTP conferences (Spain 2012, Italy 2014, UK 2016, Canada 2018, Italy 2021), it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 6th IWA International Conference on eco-Technologies for Wastewater Treatment to be held fromĀ June 26th to 29th, 2023 in Girona.
ecoSTP-23 aims to discuss the latest cutting-edge eco-technologies for a sustainable transition in wastewater treatment, reuse, and resource recovery, at urban and industrial scale, giving special attention to the efficient transfer of knowledge into practice. Building a more resilient future for water management needs a transdisciplinary and multi-domain examination, including socio-economic and governance aspects. ecoSTP23 will include hydro-social aspects and the multiple factors that currently frame water management.
The 4-day conference will include keynote presentations (one from academia, one from industry), daily plenary sessions with invited world-wide recognized speakers, platform and poster sessions, workshops in the afternoon to debate about open questions in our field, specialized courses and guided technical visits. ecoStP23 will host a diverse audience represented by researchers, technology providers, consulting engineering firms, and utilities.
Some of the main topics are: I) emerging technologies and processes, II) decentralized strategies, III) resource recovery and safe use, IV) digitalization, and V) economic, environmental and social footprint. The workshops will focus on I) full-scale experiences in the implementation of new ecotechnologies, II) the hydro-social cycle and the socio-political aspects and the human dimension of water, and III) wastewater-based epidemiology and the ethics of AI application in the water domain.
The conference will be in Girona, one of the most distinctive historical cities of Catalonia, well known for its Jewish old quarter, its magnificent gothic cathedral and its unique gastronomy. The city is situated between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees, and it offers a wonderfully contrasting landscape only 100km far away from Barcelona, 60km from France and 30km from Costa Brava.
The conference will be organized by the LEQUiA research group from the University of Girona and the Catalan Institute for Water Research, two recognised institutions in the area of water research technologies.
