The MAR2PROTECT Frielas Living Lab held its first civil society engagement event at NOVA University of Lisbon on April 30th, as part of the University’s Open Day. This event, designed to help pre-university students explore future study paths, featured hands-on demonstrations and activities across the fields of Science, Engineering, and Technology.
As part of MAR2PROTECT, students learned about the pollutants targeted at the Frielas demonstration site and observed a live demonstration of the technology used to remove them. They then took a fun and educational quiz, with the top scorers earning the title and certificate of “Brainiac of the Day.”
The Frielas Living Lab actively engaged local stakeholders and co-developed activities to connect the wider public with critical environmental challenges, promoting awareness and participation. Its implementation is supported by the methodology and detailed guidance provided by IHE Delft Institute for Water Education.
This event also marked the kick-off of a broader outreach and engagement strategy for the MAR2PROTECT Living Lab in Frielas. By fostering early awareness among young students and creating collaborative spaces with community stakeholders, the project takes an important step toward co-creating sustainable solutions for groundwater protection and reuse.“
